NT Labs Octozin
1. Product Overview
NT Labs Octozin is a highly specialised medication designed to treat internal parasites and protozoan infections in aquarium fish. It is widely regarded in the British aquatic hobby as the “go-to” treatment for flagellate disorders.
Unlike many treatments that strip the water of beneficial bacteria, Octozin is harmless to nitrifying bacteria (biological filtration) and plants when used as directed. It generally does not require a water change before use, though the system should be clean.
2. Indications (What it Treats)
Octozin is specifically formulated to target internal flagellates and systemic bacterial disorders. It is the primary treatment for:
-
Sleeping Sickness (Cryptobia).
-
Hole-in-the-Head Disease (Hexamita / Spironucleus): Common in Cichlids (Oscars, Discus) and Gouramis.
-
Malawi Bloat: A common issue in African Cichlids where the abdomen becomes swollen.
-
Dropsy: (In early stages where internal parasites are the suspected cause).
-
Whitespot: (Can be used as a support treatment in stubborn marine cases).
Symptoms to look for:
-
Fish appearing emaciated (sunken belly) despite eating.
-
White, stringy, slimy faeces (a classic sign of internal parasites).
-
Pitting or erosion around the head and lateral line (Hole-in-the-Head).
-
Listlessness or dark colouration.
3. Dosage and Directions
Important: Octozin comes in liquid form. Do not confuse this with tablet medications. The liquid is designed to dissolve in the aquarium water.
-
Standard Dosage: 10ml per 34 Litres (approx. 5 Imperial Gallons).
-
Course Duration: The treatment is a 3-day course. You must add the dosage on Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3.
-
Procedure:
-
Calculate the volume of your aquarium (Length x Width x Height in cm / 1000 = Litres).
-
Dissolve the required amount of liquid in a litre of aquarium water, then pour evenly into the tank (or pour directly into the filter flow).
-
Day 1: Add full dose.
-
Day 2: Add full dose.
-
Day 3: Add full dose.
-
Day 8: Perform a partial water change (approx. 25–30%).
-
Note: Please read all instructions thoroughly before using.
4. Safety and Compatibility
-
Filtration: You must remove chemical filtration media (Carbon/Charcoal, Zeolite, Chemipure, Purigen) during the 3-day treatment, as these will absorb the medication and render it useless.
-
UV Sterilisers: Turn off UV sterilisers and Ozonisers during treatment.
-
Biological Filters: Safe. It does not harm the beneficial bacteria in your sponge or ceramic media.
-
Invertebrates: Octozin is generally considered safe for shrimps, snails, and corals, but always observe carefully.
-
Overdosing: Follow instructions carefully. While relatively safe, gross overdosing can stress fish.
5. Storage and Shelf Life
-
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
-
Keep the bottle tightly capped when not in use.
-
Keep out of reach of children.
